Ahead of its launch in May, Vauxhall has
announced prices for the all new Astra five-door hatchback. With the
prices among the most competitive in the fiercely fought
lower-medium segment, Vauxhall expects to attract high levels of
interest from both private and fleet buyers for its dynamic new
hatch.
The new Astra builds upon the strengths of the outgoing model with
class leading dynamics and design, and is a major step forward in
style, safety, space and build quality.
Vauxhall is confident that the new Astra will give both the recently
launched Golf Mk V and the established Ford Focus a real battle when
it comes to value for money with on the road prices starting at £10,995
and rising to a maximum of £17,645. The Astra goes on sale on 1
May.
Engines and models
From launch, seven trim levels and a choice of six engines will be
available. Starting with the Expression model, the range includes

Some key equipment
To give a taste for the kind of equipment level that will feature on
the new Astra, the starting point for all models includes central
locking, ABS, side-airbags, and electric windows. Move up to a Club
model and a foldable door key, curtain airbags, alloy wheels and air
conditioning are added to the list.
The stylish Astra Design, from £14,495 adds such luxury as
half-leather sports seats, rain sensor and a trip computer. A top of
the range Astra Elite gets all this plus a full leather interior,
electronic climate control and power folding mirrors.
As a comparison, the Astra Life 1.4 16v at £11,995 on the road
compares with the
5-door Golf S 1.4 FSI at £13,035 while the Astra Club 1.6 16v at £13,495
compares with the Golf SE 1.6 at £15,285.
In addition to these luxury and convenience features, the new Astra
gets a raft of technical innovations under the skin.
Some of these are chassis developments, and while the new Astra
delivers a superb driving experience for all, for those who want a
little more "sport", the SRi model is fitted with the
latest generation Electronic Stability Program and a sports switch
to change chassis settings where Continuous Damping Control (CDC) is
fitted.
