Vauxhall Motors becomes wholly owned subsidiary of General lMotors.  25/70 S-type model launched

1933

Vauxhall Light Six (ASY andd ASX) 12 and 14hp models launched

1935

New DY and DX cars replace Light Six models; first British cars with independent front suspension

1937

Vauxhall enters the 10hp market with the H Model - first integrally built British car

1939/45

War production included 5640 Churchill tanks and 250,000 Bedford trucks

1951

E-type Vauxhall Wyvern/Velox introduced

Golden Jubilee of the Vauxhall car.  Company builds its millionth vehicle

1954

£36 million plant expansion project announced.  E-type Cresta launched

1958

Victor estate offered, the first Vauxhall estate car.

1959

Vauxhall produced its 2-millionth vehicle.  Further expansion announced - new car plant at Ellesmere Port.

Vauxhall FB Victors introduced

Vauxhall HA Viva 1-litre saloons launched

1966

HB Viva cars built at Ellesmere Port.

1971

Millionth Viva produced.

1975

Vauxhall Chevette hatchbacks launched.  Cavalier saloons and coupe announced.

1977

Cavalier production begins at Luton

1979

New Vauxhall Astra front wheeled drive models announced

1981

Mark II front wheel drive Cavalier is launched.  First Vauxhall Astra built at Ellesmere Port

1982

Diesel option for Vauxhall Astra and Cavalier

 

1983

Vauxhall Nova launched, plus Astra GTE

1984

£100 million investment announced by GM in Vauxhall car-build facilities.  Mark II Astra range launched

1988

Cavalier sales pass million mark

1990

The 180mph, 377bhp Lotus Carlton was launched.  It was the highest performance production Vauxhall ever

1992

Vauxhall was the first UK manufacturer to equip all petrol-engined cars with catalytic converters

1993

Received the 1993 Queen's Award for Export Achievement.  The GM Card from Vauxhall announced.  Corsa launched

1994

Launch of the Omega.  First volume vehicle manufacturer in Europe to be registered by the British Standards Institute to BS5750 (ISO 900)

1995

Celebrated 90 years of building in Luton.  Launch of Vectra, replaclement ofthe Cavalier, following a £136M refurbishment of the Luton plant

1996

Vauxhall became the first motor vehicle manufacturer to establish Environmental Management Systems  BS7750 (ISO 14001) in all its operations

1999

Launch of Zafira, the revolutionary MPV with acclaimed Flex7 seating system

2000

Launch of new Corsa and the stunning VX220
