VAUXHALL OWNERS CLUB 1903 - 1957
Continuing the series of VBOA profile articles . . . . .

Formed in 1976, with a range covering all models having the famous flutes on the bonnet up to the E Type Wyvern and Cresta, we have members all over the world owning old Vauxhalls reflecting how important exporting of the earlier vehicles was to Vauxhall Motors.

Although the Club is non-profit making and is run by volunteers, it operates in a professional manner with a formal constitution, an AGM, elected Committee, audited accounts etc. and, through membership of the Vauxhall Bedford Opel Association, and the Federation of British Historic Vehicle Clubs, is able to keep members well informed.

This formal base doesn't, however, affect the friendly, helpful nature of the Club and its officers.

There are several aspects of the Club which make it different to many other Vauxhall Clubs, the main one being the huge range of models covered - 54 years worth.   We don't, of course, have too many members with a 1903 model !

This necessitates another distinction - the provision of mentors or experts for each of the model ranges to help and advise members.  A further difference is our provision of cover for Bedford commercial vehicles, mainly vans and pick-ups, that were based on a car chassis or body within our date range.

Bernard Ridgley, President of the VOC 1903-1957, and his wife, Margery. (Bernard's car is a 1934 Vauxhall Light Six Model ASY).

Services provided to members include:-
  • Provision of an address list
  • Spares Co-ordinator - remanufacturing, buying and selling parts to keep our vehicles on the road.
  • Price guide for people considering the purchase of a vehicle.
  • Monthly magazine called "Flute News" - for obvious reasons !
  • Car badges, regalia etc.
  • Annual national rally in a different part of the country each year.
  • Club stand at major shows like Alexandra Palace, NEC and Stoneleigh, as well as regional classic car shows.

Bernard worked for Vauxhall Motors for over 40 years, retiring as Senior Restorer for the Vauxhall Heritage Centre.
