Vauxhall gets
digital!

Here’s some news which is set to get a great reception from
drivers – Vauxhall has become the first manufacturer to offer
crackle-free digital radios as standard. The revolutionary DAB
(Digital Audio Broadcast) technology, which offers a whole host of
new stations, uninterrupted broadcasts and crisper music
transmissions is standard fitment in all 2005 model year Elite,
Design and GSi versions of the Vectra.
True to its promise of introducing the finest innovations to buyers,
the advanced digital radio technology will also be available as a
factory-fitted option on other Vectra models. And it’s not just
large cars in the range which will benefit, as Vauxhall is also
offering DAB to buyers of the Corsa supermini and Meriva MPV.
Van drivers, who tend to spend more time on the road, will also have
the chance to experience the extra choice and enhanced sound quality
offered by DAB as the company has extended the digital option to the
Corsa Van and Combo.
DAB technology was designed for listening on the move, with a
network of transmitters across the country bringing digital signals
to more than 85% of the population.
Thousands of buyers have already experienced the benefits of in-car
digital radio as DAB receivers were introduced as an option in the
New Astra last May. To make the most of the better sound quality
offered by digital broadcasts, the £450 CDC40 infotainment option
incorporates a seven-band graphic equaliser, steering-wheel mounted
audio controls and an upgraded seven-speaker system, in addition to
an in-dash six-CD multi-changer.

Vauxhall has also just launched the New Astra SXi Digital, a special
edition model with the CDC40 unit fitted as standard. Its arrival in
showrooms will be a significant step towards converting consumers to
in-car DAB, as it will allow sales staff to demonstrate the benefits
to car buyers. The digital radio industry, under the auspices of the
DRDB (Digital Radio Development Bureau), supported the launch with a
national radio advertising campaign across 265 FM radio stations.
Kevin Wale, Vauxhall’s chairman and managing director, said:
"With stylish good looks and exciting dynamics, drivers already
love being behind the wheel of a Vauxhall. But by offering the
latest DAB radio technology to our buyers we’ll make it
entertaining even to be stuck in traffic!"
